June 2017

This past October, Chub Cay sustained a direct hit from Hurricane Matthew. Sadly, our beautiful island was devastated. After months of hard work and extensive repairs, we have overcome the destruction and are planning a Soft Opening on June 15th, followed by a Grand Opening on July 1. Just in time for the fourth of July! The silver lining of Hurricane Matthew was the opportunity to revitalize the “old” Chub Cay Club into more than just a fishing village. We are in the process of developing a spa and fitness center, along with a full schedule of activities.

In December of 2017, guided kayak and paddle board tours will be available. Sunrise and sunset beach yoga, as well as a beach run, will be offered as well. A select number of our tropically colored, beachfront villas will be available for rent. With Chub Cay’s world-class bill and bone fishing, spectacular diving, over 600 acres of nature pre-serve, and miles of beaches, we have something for everyone! John Dial, our new General Manager, joined the Chub Cay Team in April. John started his career as yacht captain and later transitioned to marine oriented real estate development with his yacht owner for twelve years. In addition to managing Chub Cay, he continues to run his own yacht brokerage, Lima Yacht Sales, in Lima, Peru, Miami, and Stuart, Florida. His back- ground includes helping in the redevelopment of the club at Harbortown Marina in Hilton Head, S.C. and The Hampton Inn Resort and Marina in Marathon, Florida. He was also a Fleet Manager and trainer for Baker’s Bay in Abaco, Bahamas. He is a current member of the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida as well as a private pilot. We are honored to welcome Dial as a member of the Chub Cay family. When asked what he was most excited about for opening Chub Cay Club, Dial said, “to see this place restored to being a world class resort and upgrade the service to match!”

Once an unfinished vacant building, our new Club House has been remodeled and restored. It is now serves as a high-end boutique hotel. The lobby is comprised of a full service restaurant and bar featuring warm and inviting sitting spaces. The upstairs consists of eleven luxury resort rooms. We are excited to introduce our new Clubhouse Manager, Stephen Robinson, who also over-sees the Food and Beverage Department. He joined the Chub Cay Team one month ago. Stephen previously worked at The Cove in Atlantis in Nassau, Bahamas, where he is from originally. He began his career in the culinary industry, where he became a certified head pastry chef. He then moved into the hospitality industry and is experienced working the front desk, concierge, and spa and fitness center. This being the first time the Club House is fully operational, Robinson says he is excited “to be a part of the opening team” and "to be able to put his stamp on everything." He wants our guests, from the moment they step foot on the island, to expect services that they would experience at any five-star resort. We are in the process of hiring a new chef who will provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with service on the beach and pool and possibly a late night buffet. Stay tuned for more information!
